Pemuda Sinarmas is an Indonesian cassette jockey pioneer and cultural
practitioner who brings analog sound into lively conversation with
contemporary music culture. Since 2015, he has performed exclusively
using original cassette tapes, treating them not as nostalgic relics but as
active, living archives. With a playful yet rigorous approach, Pemuda
Sinarmas transforms Indonesian popular music—spanning disco, pop,
dangdut, house, funkot, and rare regional recordings—into dynamic
experiences for modern dance floors and listening spaces.
Working hands-on with vintage cassette technology, Pemuda Sinarmas
bridges sound, memory, and material culture, highlighting Southeast Asian
music as a vibrant and evolving narrative rather than a retrospective revival.
His performances celebrate the tactile, imperfect, and human qualities of
analog media while situating them within contemporary global music
contexts.
Pemuda Sinarmas has appeared at leading festivals and cultural
events in Indonesia, including The Sounds Project (2019), Synchronize
Festival (2019), and Pestapora (2022, 2024). Internationally, he
performed at the Mango Art Festival in Bangkok, Thailand (2024),
marking an important step in the expansion of his practice beyond
national borders.
Beyond his solo work, Pemuda Sinarmas actively collaborates with
musicians and visual artists. His collaborative projects include works
with Club Dangdut Racun (“Remux Asmara”) and Circarama (“Long
Gone” and “Sweet Shining” remixes), as well as a cross-disciplinary
collaboration with visual artist Toxic Motel. Their joint work, “Khayalan
dan Luka,” was presented at the FuBar Exhibition in Zagreb, Croatia
(2024). In parallel, Pemuda Sinarmas regularly releases curated
cassette mixes, documenting his ongoing exploration of archives,
performance, and contemporary listening culture.
